When I first found the Butterfly and Clock Mouse Trails, phew, many mango seasons ago now, I did mess around a little (very technical geekette talk there) with the settings (like the color), but I really needed to get other things finished at the time. What you have stumbled across is just represents remnants of my own travels down those roads that so many of us take as we get to where we eventually end up in our various asundry computer~related endeavors. Grin..
Feel free to view the source code of this webpage if you are interested in playing with this script on your own document(s). I have thrown in a few comments that explain where the Butterfly Mouse Trail, as shared by Tim Bruemmer, and Clock Mouse Trail, as shared by Kurt Grigg, slides into your code.
If you find yourself not understanding the comments as they have been written into my code, trust me when I say you would be better off finding something else very simple to play with first before attempting this one. Been there, done that. Wore the tshirt out wiping off the tears of frustration..
If you are really new at all of this, your other option is to start out with a SUPER simple webpage that only contains the html, title, head, and body parts then add the script so you can see how it is going to react. After you get it working correctly on a simple webpage setup, you can play with it as you begin to put back in what your would normally have on your own webpages.
Some surfers along the way have asked how to get this to play out on their desktops. Unfortunately I have not the first clue on that one nor if it is even possible to add it as a permanent desktop display. Grin..
If you find yourself also of the mindset to try adding this script to your own desktop but you are not sure where to begin, you would need to find a website that actually teaches javascript methodology or that at least gives a few helpful tips. In my own case, I just happen to have this still displayed here because I found it very early on in my own self~teaching on the Internet. For old times' sake and that thing we oft hear tell of about maintaining continuity on the Web, I have not yet removed it and most likely never will.
As with so many other of the more fun things out there, this javascript source will not validate under most circumstances and probably does not work more often than it does depending on the browser and security settings used for the computer in question. If there are that many what ifs, why bother, you ask? Because it's there and we can.. Grin..
You can track the Butterfly Mouse Trail and a lot of other fun JavaScript sources over at The JavaScript Source. Thanks again to Tim Bruemmer (Butterfly Mouse Trail) and Kurt Grigg (Clock Mouse Trail) for sharing their creations so long ago now, it feels like eons have past. Grin..
Happy, Safe Surfing!
